Brake dust is composed of a variety of icky ingredients. The combination of road grime, moisture and heat from your brakes will bake it on to your wheels if it is left unattended to for too long. Because static electricity tends to cause brake dust to cling to tires, a damp sponge and clean cold water is the best way to get it off.
