Mitsubishi Motors and AeroVironment, Inc., an authority in electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure solutions, are teaming up to provide EV charging stations for the 2012 electric-powered Mitsubishi i.

AeroVironment’s turnkey solution includes its UL-listed home charging station, permit acquisition, installation, customer training, 24/7 customer service and a leading three-year warranty on both parts and installation labor. With a single telephone call, EV drivers can order their charging station and schedule its installation from AeroVironment, a pioneer in the electric transportation industry for more than 20 years.

“The AeroVironment EVSE-RS Level 2 electric vehicle charging system is an easy-to-use, reliable and safe option for Mitsubishi i owners to use for charging their brand-new EVs in their own homes,” said Yoichi Yokozawa, president and CEO of Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. “AeroVironment has consistently delivered excellent and innovative EV products and services that cover every step of the purchase and installation process.”

AeroVironment’s trained and certified installers secure necessary permits, take into account specific homeowners’ and renters’ unique requests and account for both electrical and building requirements in local areas.

We look forward to working with Mitsubishi Motors to achieve that vision.”

AeroVironment delivers a full portfolio of EV charging systems that fit a wide range of consumer lifestyles and driving patterns – including solutions for the home, work, highway, and retail establishments. The Level 2 home charging station connects to a 240-volt line and is capable of recharging a fully depleted Mitsubishi i battery in approximately 7 hours. Additional AeroVironment charging solutions include a standard plug-in AC cord set (Level 1), a Level 2 connected or “smart” system for home and business use and DC fast chargers that can charge a completely empty main lithium-ion battery pack of a 2012 Mitsubishi i to 80 percent full in less than 30 minutes.

Driving Tip of the Day: Don't Drive Drowsy

Courtesy of How Stuff Works

Safe-driving-tips3
A study conducted by researchers at Virginia Tech reported that 20 percent of all accidents have sleepiness as a contributing factor [source: TheDenverChannel]. If a driver is tired enough to actually fall asleep while driving, the results are predictable. Even on a relatively straight highway, a sleeping driver will eventually drift off the road. Trees, utility poles, ravines and bridge abutments turn this into a deadly scenario -- and that doesn't even take other cars into account.

You might think a few yawns are nothing to worry about, but just being a little drowsy is enough to increase your risk of getting in an accident. Responses can range from dozing off for a few seconds at a time to simply "zoning out" and losing all focus on the road. At highway speeds, one or two seconds of inattention can lead to disaster.

The solution is simple: Get a better night's sleep! Make sure you get a solid eight hours of sleep, not just on the night before a long drive, but on a regular basis. Failure to get enough sleep every night builds a sleep deficit that can leave you drowsy and unable to focus. If you're driving and feel the least bit groggy, take action immediately. Don't think you'll get any kind of warning before you fall asleep, or that you can fight it off. People can move from drowsy to sound asleep without warning. If this happens to you, have a friend take over behind the wheel, find a rest area where you can catch a few hours of sleep or take a break until you're feeling more alert.

We really appreciate this great feedback.

2012 Mitsubishi Lancer SE AWC road test

Courtesy of The Examiner via Ivan Katz

The Lancer SE AWC, which stands for all wheel control offers decent performance and all wheel drive, at a very reasonable price.  Is it the Evo for the masses?  Let's find out!

Even though it has excellent all wheel drive capabilities its look is very understated.  The Lancer blends in with many of today's sedans.  It is definitely more Clark Kent than Superman!  The AWC badge does give a hint of its abilities.

The interior is also a bit understated, outfitted in basic black.  The cloth seats while sedate looking, are both comfortable and supportive.

While the interior doesn't exude luxury, the layout is nice and everything falls to hand easily.  The only complaint I have is that the heated seat switches are pretty far back on the center console.

The Lancer range starts at $15,000 and goes all the way up to about $24,000.  The SE AWC starts at $20,195 and with destination you are out the door at $20,990.  To me that is very fair and certainly in line with the competition.  It is definitely the sleeper of the Lancer lineup.

Power comes from a 2.4 liter dual overhead cam 4 cylinder which produces 168 horsepower and 167 lb. ft. of torque.   You can expect to get 22 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway 25 mpg overall.  However, you do have the option of keeping it in front wheel drive mode which will save you some fuel over the long haul.

It comes equipped with 18" alloy wheels that help with both looks and grip.  Stability and traction control combine with the all wheel control to help you stay on the road when it gets slick with rain, ice or snow.

Front Macpherson struts are paired with rear multi-link suspension and I must say the combination works well for the Lancer.   I experienced mild understeer while driving in fresh snow which thankfully came right when the Lancer arrived!

While in regular four wheel drive mode the overall handling was very good and also quite entertaining.  I preferred to keep it in four wheel lock mode while in the snow because it helped keep the car in line better, and was also more predictable.

In normal driving I found the Lancer SE AWC a real joy to pilot.  I drive a lot of cars and some of them really click with me in terms of overall feel and function.  The Lancer is definitely one of those cars.

I also like that you can choose between front wheel drive and all wheel drive.  Keep it in front wheel drive most of the time and you can save a bit on gas, but with the flip of a switch, you are back in all wheel drive.  Nice!

Out on the back roads it is surprisingly peppy and agile.  I thoroughly enjoyed it on some of my favorite bends.

Basically with the Lancer SE AWC you are getting a very capable four door sedan with a nice sized trunk.  There's also a bit of luxury thrown in with power doors and windows, plus key-less entry and heated seats.   It's not incredibly fast, but it is quick, fun and capable.

Thank you for this wonderful review.

Featuredimg
Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc., (MMNA), has seen the company’s all-new 100% electric-powered 2012 Mitsubishi i featuring Mitsubishi innovative Electric Vehicle (MiEV) technology named to the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy’s (ACEEE’s) prestigious “Greenest Vehicles of 2012” and “Greener Choices” lists.

The “Greenest Vehicles” and “Greener Choices” lists appear in the ACEEE’s Green Book® Online. The Green Book® Online, according to the ACEEE, is an “annual ranking that highlights the environmental friendliness of vehicles in the United States.” Only the twelve highest-ranked vehicles by the ACEEE make it onto the organization’s “Greenest Vehicles” list.

With a starting net value of $21,625* for the well-equipped entry-level ES model (the premium-grade SE version begins at $23,625*), the 2012 Mitsubishi i is the most affordably-priced mass-produced electric vehicle (EV) available in the United States and is the first of several new advanced, alternative-fuel production vehicles that the Japanese auto manufacturer plans on bringing to the North American market in the next few years.

The all-new 2012 Mitsubishi i will be available to test drive at participating dealerships throughout the northeast, Virginia and Illinois beginning in March (the vehicle is already available in California, Oregon, Washington and Hawaii) and will be available nationwide by this summer.

Monday Maintenance Tip: Clean brake dust off regularly.

Courtesy of Car Bibles

Brake_dust
Brake dust is composed of a variety of icky ingredients. The combination of road grime, moisture and heat from your brakes will bake it on to your wheels if it is left unattended to for too long. Because static electricity tends to cause brake dust to cling to tires, a damp sponge and clean cold water is the best way to get it off.
